Simplex Transmitters and the Alta-Comm
ACTrax Service
Now you can track and monitor valuable assets with the simple to use plug and
play simplex transmitter using Alta-Comm's ACTrax location system with a basic
simplex data service package. The ACTrax Service is available with the option
of two (second model to be released late August 2006) plug and play simplex devices. These units will send
up to 6 GPS location
reports per day. In addition, the devices have four analogue ports which can
be used to provide customers with additional monitoring and event-driven
capabilities as required. Examples of the additional monitoring would be if a
door switch is activated or if the temperature drops below a certain level in a
refrigerated vehicle. The reports will be available for customers to access via
the ACTrax Location Service. This easy-to-use service offers a view of the last
GPS report or can immediately link to Google Earth for a graphical picture of
the unit's location.
How Simplex Technology Works
Simplex messages are transmitted via the Globalstar low-earth orbit satellite
network, using an uplink-only connection (one-way data transmission).
Multiple messages are sent over several minutes at each transmission interval to
ensure reception. Once the Globalstar system confirms a message it ensures
repeats are deleted for efficiency. Customer only pays for first confirmed
message.

Globalstar Approved ACTrax Products
Alta-Comm ACTrax Service can be accessed through the DataHost software using
one of the two Globalstar approved products. Both are battery-operated,
wireless data devices that integrate the Globalstar Simplex Transmitter Unit.
These units are ready-to-go out of the box and easy to install. Both have
batteries with a 2 to 6 year life that can be easily replaced in the
field. Power consumption estimates based 6 messages per day. Results may vary.
