Once in the realm of spy movies, vehicle tracking is now real and rapidly offers excellent return on investment.

For years both large and small organizations with fleets knew they had to monitor their assets but the question was how. We have the answer. Alta-Comm has many options that can be implemented in small fleets such as a plumbing or welding company might have or large fleets of over 500 vehicles. We offer systems that can utilize cost effective terrestrial services such as cellular systems, satellite based systems utilizing the Globalstar constellation or  systems incorporating both for blanket coverage with automatic default to the cost effective service when in range.

AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location also commonly called Asset Tracking) systems are fast becoming the best tool for managers and owners to utilize their fleets more effectively, reduce losses, and improve worker safety conditions. ROI in most applications is realized within a very short period of time, from 2 to 12 months. We can offer the most basic to the most advanced equipment and all systems are engineered to meet your requirements, we don't believe your company should change the way it operates to accommodate a system that is intended to reduce manager and worker stress.

ASP based systems are available for low initial cost. An ASP system allows you to log into the system from any browser on a computer with web access. Systems display location of vehicles and allow reports to be generated showing vehicle activity. Maps must reload in the browser when following a unit or changing the view from one vehicle to another. The speed at which the maps load depends on the internet connection speed and the traffic on the local network or internet and the computer. ASP based equipment is generally not able to integrate to auxiliary devices such as engine monitoring or dual mode network access.

Client/Server software product offers many benefits that can't be found in ASP systems. This is especially apparent in large fleets. DataLink Systems Inc.  software is IT friendly and has been integrated into several other corporation back ends. Speed is one of the most visible differences in Client/Server software when compared to ASP systems. Auxiliary equipment is varied and these systems can offer a higher degree of integration both in vehicle and in the back end software environment.

Our equipment is capable of utilizing "dual" systems for cost effective and complete coverage. Systems based solely on terrestrial cellular systems work well until the vehicle travels out side of the coverage area literally disappearing off the map. Once this happens the investment in equipment has lost it's value. We can offer a system that will provide communications over cellular systems while in coverage and then automatically switch to Globalstar Satellite coverage to maintain constant contact. Working Alone Legislation can be hard to comply with and cellular phones are no longer accepted as a viable way to communicate from remote locations.

In Alberta the Government Working Alone Legislation has had an impact on all organizations, especially those who have people in the field. Simply being able to make a call in the event of a problem isn't good enough, many times field personnel are out of cell phone coverage during their day as well. In times of high stress people are some times unable to explain where they are. Being able to pinpoint their location allows for extremely fast response times for Emergency Services Personnel. We have systems that allow you to know where your people are, in or out of cellular coverage.
